Our Inspiration

The “Suhba” (Companionship) of Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه

Thirteen hard years have passed in Makkah and all the Muslims have made the Hijrah to Madinah.

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم is waiting for permission from Allah to make the epic journey.

The day arrives and Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم says to Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه, “Allah has given me permission to leave Makkah and make the Hijrah.

Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه  immediately says, “As Suhba Ya Rasulullah! (Give me the honour of being your companion on the journey O Prophet of Allah!).

Our Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replies, “As Suhba (You are my companion).”

Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه had prepared two camels for the hijrah. While travelling, he goes in front of the Prophet, then behind him, then on the right and then on the left.

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم  says, “Abu Bakr, what are you doing?

He says, “Ya Rasulullah, I think someone will attack from the front so I go ahead, then I think someone will attack from behind, so I go behind, then to the right and then to the left.

When they finally get to the city of Quba, the people aren’t sure which of the two men is the prophet until the sun shines on the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم and Abu Bakr immediately shades him with his shawl.

He is consistently looking out for the comfort of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.

At Suhba, we aspire to be companions to our travellers as Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was to Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم.
